Junior Insurance Economist - European Economic Analysis

This is your unique opportunity to actively contribute to analyzing the European economic outlook and assess the respective implications for the insurance sector at one of the largest global reinsurance companies! Together with a high-calibre and motivated international team, you will join a dynamic, fast and challenging work environment that allows you to expand your skill set, gain experience and contribute to meaningful projects and analysis.

About the role

In this role based in Bratislava, Slovakia, at Group Economic and Sigma Research, you will actively contribute to developing the baseline views and forecasts on the European economic outlook as well as translate what these macroeconomic assumptions mean for insurance and reinsurance markets in Europe, particularly for the Life & Health insurance business sub-segment. The role is an excellent stepping-stone within the company and as such, you should expect a dynamic environment and be able to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and autonomy in your daily work.

Key tasks and responsibilities include:

•    Work with various experienced economists to analyse and forecast key macroeconomic variables for European countries (e.g. GDP growth, labour markets, CPI inflation, interest rates, central bank policy, fiscal policy, financial markets). This includes longer-term structural macro theme identification (e.g. changing demographics).
•    Assess the implications of the external macroeconomic environment for the insurance market outlook, namely analyze how certain changes in economic variables (e.g. interest rates) affect Life & Health insurance markets. Develop projections on the outlook for the overall insurance sector business based on broader macro trends (e.g. develop forecasts on future insurance premium growth and insurance sector profitability metrics).
•    Develop and improve models and data monitoring tools to further strengthen the team's top-down external macro and insurance sector analysis.
•    Support Swiss Re's thought leadership research through conducting literature reviews, data analysis and written contributions to publications on the external macro environment and how this affects insurance markets (e.g. Swiss Re's European Economic Outlook quarterly report, Sigma flagship publication on insurance market trends)
•    Support the Group Chief Economist and European Chief Economist in various tasks, including writing background notes and preparing high-quality visually appealing presentations for external client outreach, as well as some other administrative tasks

The broader GESR department is responsible for analysing and forecasting the global macroeconomic and insurance market environment.
